ACCOMMODATION IN BRITTANY AT
PENTREZ PLAGE

In my opinion this is the most beautiful view in Brittany. The french describe it as 'where the country and sea coexist harmoniously' and that about describes your view when you turn off the Chateaulin Road onto the St Nic Road.

The rolling hills of the countryside drop down to a picture of a magnificent bay and the shimmery waters of the sea. Even on a cloudy day the view is breathtaking and gives a surge of excitement, knowing you've arrived. For some fantastic photos and webcam visit www.pentrez.com

The large 4km sandy beach of Pentrez is perfect not only for safe swimming (there is a lifegurard on duty throughout the summer) but also many activities such as wind surfing, kite surfing, sand sailing and body boarding. There is a sand sailing and kite surfing school on the beach and you can book before you go at Club de Pentrez

The coastline of the Crozon Peninsula is one of the most varied and beautiful. The large white sandy beaches, small coves and picturesque ports and villages contrast with the high windswept cliff tops and fantastic coastal walks to the high point of the Cap de Chevre and the Pointe des Espanols.

The beach is one of the safest in the area for young children. It is flat so when the tide is in there are no sudden drops which makes paddling quite safe. The sea does go out a long way which is a perfect time to visit the many rock pools, build a huge sand castle or play cricket or football (as the beach is never too full) High tide is usually a great time to splash in the waves or try your hand at bodyboarding

Finistere (the end of the world) is a land of magical legends, religion, celtic music, art and food. There are many fest-noz or pardons during the year where you can celebrate and dance with the Bretons clad in their traditional costume and of course sample the local food and drink!!!!!

The largest pardon is on the old druid site situated near the historical town of Locronan (left) which also boasts many craft shops, restaurants and galleries.

Art is embedded in the Breton culture. Pont Aven - the city of painters is only a 40 minute drive and is the home of Paul Gaugin.

LOCAL AMENITIES

Pentrez Village is located around the sea front. There are a couple of bakeries and an alimentation where you can get basic provisions. There is a Spar supermarket 1km away in the village of St Nic and a larger supermarket at Plomodiern 4 kms away. The hypermarkets are located at Crozon, Chateaulin and Quimper.

There are several restaurants and bars in the village. During the summer, there is also a fast food van at the beach which serve a good burger. Plomodiern (4km) also has several restaurant and bars. My favourite nearby town is Morgat (19km). There is a marina, a large beach with kids club and sail/surf school, indoor swimming pool with slides and jacuzzi, restaurants and bars along the seafront. For those that like a little more nightlife there is also a disco!

This is an area for the active as well as those that just like to relax. There are many coastal walks or cycling routes, details of which can be obtained at the Tourist Information Centre on the seafront. Watersports are very popular. There is a sand surf and kite surf school on the beach and several places in Morgat where you can hire sail boats, surfboards, bodyboards, canoes etc or takes lessons. Sea fishing trips and boat trips around the cliffs, caves and to the offshore islands are available at the ports of Morgat, Douarnenez and Audierne.

Brest, a 30 minute drive away, has two golf courses and many other attractions such as Oceanopolis, well worth a visit.
